1. What’s our philosophy?
Veriphi is made up of a team of privacy activists. As such, respecting the privacy of our users is of utmost importance and we are committed to keeping personal information accurate, confidential and secure. Personal information is information about a physical person allowing that individual to be identified, directly or indirectly, as defined under Canadian and Quebec privacy laws.
2. What’s not covered by this policy?
This policy covers the services that are offered directly by Veriphi.
What’s not covered in this policy? Our services sometimes link to services run by other organisations. Those organisations have their own privacy and cookie policies, so remember that the information you give them will be subject to their rules and not ours.
3. How do you protect my personal information?
We’re strongly committed to keeping the information you provide to us safe. To do this, we design our services with security in mind. We also have a team of experts to look after the security of your personal information.
Keep in mind however that no service can be completely secure. If you have any concerns that your Veriphi account or personal information has been breached, please get in touch with us right away at the email address indicated at the end of this policy.
4. Where is my personal information stored and processed?
We do our best to store and process your personal information in Canada. Keep in mind however that this is not always ideal and that some organizations that provide services to us may be located outside of Canada. Your personal information therefore could be transferred, stored and processed in a location outside of Canada. In any case, we only let that happen if we are satisfied with their level of security and privacy and when the contract we have with them meets our standards and applicable laws.
5. What kind of personal information does Veriphi collect about me?
Unless it is obvious, we’ll tell you why we need your personal information and how we’ll use it before you begin using our services.
This may include your name, physical and postal addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, Facebook, Google, LinkedIn, Twitter and other social media accounts identifiers, date of birth, other identification and financial information when performing transactions, and any personal information you may enter into information blocks on our website or our applications. We may also collect the following information:
Devices may include your computer, your mobile device like a smartphone or tablet, or your Bitcoin node. We may automatically collect some technical information from these devices, even when you’re not signed in to the device or your Veriphi account. This might include your IP address, device ID, app ID, vendor ID, time and date, along with localization when available.
Browsing and app usage information:
We may collect information about how you use our services, like the articles you read, the videos you watch and how you use our website and apps.
Information on your activities outside Veriphi when you mention us:
We may collect information about you when you mention us on the Internet, in a Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn post or other social media, including your user names, time and date and localization when available.
You will never be required to provide any kind of personal information, unless it is required and directly related to the services we provide to you.
6. How long will Veriphi keep my personal information?
We’ll keep your personal information for as long as we do the activities we told you about or provide you with the services you have subscribed to.
We’ll also keep your personal information if we have a valid reason to do so, for example following a contractual, legal, fiscal or regulatory requirement.
We may close your Veriphi account if you haven’t used it in the last year. In this case, we’ll contact you by email to tell you that we plan to do this before we delete anything.
7. How can Veriphi use my personal information?
We need a valid reason to use your personal information. Sometimes, we might ask for your consent to do things, for example when you subscribe to our publications or mailing list. Other times, when you’d reasonably expect us to use your personal information to provide a service, we won’t ask for your consent.
We use your personal information for the following:
to deliver our services to you and provide information about them
to deal with your requests and complaints
to check if you’re using Veriphi Bitcoin nodes and applications and to keep our licensing database accurate and up to date
to personalise services and give you things more tailored to your tastes (this option can be turned off)
even if you have personalisation turned off, we still collect information about how you use Veriphi services, but anonymously
to show you relevant advertising content on a partner’s or another organisation’s site
to help us understand what kind of services you might use or be interested in
to recommend things we think might interest you
to research and innovate our products and services
to contact you for various reasons (see below)
8. When will Veriphi use my personal information to contact me?
We might use your personal information to contact you about various things:
to check with you about any service you’ve signed up for or activity you’ve performed
to answer you when you’ve contacted us, or to respond to a comment or complaint
to invite you to take part in studies, questionnaires and surveys about our products and services (these are always voluntary)
for marketing purposes, if you’ve agreed to this (we may perform targeted advertising via Facebook, Google, LinkedIn, Snapchat, Twitter and other social media)
to send you notifications on your device if you’ve selected them in your settings
we’ll only contact you when we need to or when you’ve given us permission
we’ll never contact you to ask for your Veriphi account password
9. When does Veriphi share my personal information?
Veriphi will never sell your personal information.
We do share it with others in the following ways:
When you make something public (like when you post a comment that the public can see)
When we use other companies to power our services or process your personal information on our behalf
When we do collaborative research with partners
When required by applicable law, or when we need to protect you or other people from harm
10. How can I delete my personal information?
You can delete your Veriphi account at any time. Your account information will be immediately deleted. Keep in mind that we keep records of how you’ve used our services and anything you’ve made public or commented on.
We also keep certain information for a specific amount of time, as required by law, for example for fiscal reasons, including your name, address and value of the transactions you performed.
We might have collected other personal information (which has nothing to do with your Veriphi account) that you may delete by contacting us directly at the email address indicated at the bottom of this policy.
Cookies are bits of data which are stored in your computer or mobile device when you visit a website or use and app.
to remember information about you, so you don’t have to give it to us again, and again, and again…
to keep you signed in to your account, even on different devices
to help us understand how people are using our services, so we can make them better
to deliver advertising to other websites, when you have given your consent
to help us personalise Veriphi’s website or services to you by remembering your preferences, settings and progress, so you can pause and pick up where you left off, even on a different device
to find out if our emails have been read and if you find them useful
some functionalities on our websites wouldn’t work without specific cookies (strictly necessary cookies), which are always on when you visit our site
functional, performance and advertising cookies may be used to make your experience more enjoyable, but you must agree to their use and you can always change your mind at any time
Bear in mind that cookies from other companies (third-party cookies) might also track how you use different websites, including ours. You can generally turn these cookies off via their originating websites, but not through us.
Some cookies are erased when you close your browser or app. Others stay longer, sometimes forever, and are saved onto your computer or mobile device so that they’re there when you come back.
When you first visit our website or use our apps, we’ll tell you about our cookies and ask you to agree if we can use them. You can always change your mind by going to your settings at any time. Stopping all cookies might mean you can’t access some Veriphi services, or that some of them might not work properly for you. Another way to control some types of tracking is in the settings on your device.
12. How will I find out about changes to this policy?
We update this policy from time to time. If we make important changes, like how we use your personal information, we’ll let you know via a notice, email, text message or a message in your app.
If you don’t agree with the changes, you can always stop using our services, delete your account and stop giving us any more personal information.
