About Veriphi

Veriphi exists to support Canadians as they embark on their bitcoin journey – from education to purchase to safe long-term storage. We’re a bitcoin-only company because bitcoin is the only form of money that’s worth our time, and yours. This means rigorous adherence to the ethos that makes Bitcoin unique: a no-nonsense approach and total transparency in defense of your rights to freedom, property, and privacy. Bitcoin doesn’t compromise, and neither do we.

About Veriphi

We live by the bitcoiner maxim “Don’t trust. Verify.”

You don’t need to trust anyone in order to use bitcoin and that’s what truly sets it apart from all other assets. By securing your own private keys, you can take control of your wealth. Further, by running your own bitcoin full node with basic hardware and a home internet connection, you can independently verify your bitcoin holdings. To learn more about why this unique aspect of bitcoin is important, we recommend Nic Carter's It's the Settlement Assurances, Stupid.

Regardless of where you are on your bitcoin journey, our team of experts is here to help.

About Bitcoin

Bitcoin is money that is detached from politics - its code is enforced by unchanging mathematical principles distributed across a network of hundreds of thousands of self-interested actors.

The genesis

On October 8th, 2008, Bitcoin's pseudonymous creator, Satoshi Nakamoto, published the bitcoin whitepaper, Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System. On the 3rd of January, 2009, Satoshi mined the genesis block - the first block of transactions in the bitcoin blockchain. Since then, the bitcoin blockchain has been adding blocks of new transactions roughly every ten minutes.

About Veriphi

Understand what money is and you’ll understand Bitcoin

In order to understand what bitcoin is, it's important to first understand what money is. The question 'what is money?' can lead you down a deep rabbit hole. Above all, money is the most saleable good that emerges from a free market - the good for which all other goods can be traded.

There are five characteristics that increase a monetary good’s saleability across space and time:

About Veriphi
Scarcity

Scarcity

The value of the good cannot be debased arbitrarily through a supply increase

Durability

Durability

The good can maintain value through time, is not fragile and will not decay and can hold its value across time.

Portability

Portability

The good can hold its value across space.

Divisibility

Divisibility

The good can easily be used to trade for other goods of differing value.

Recognizability

Recognizability

The authenticity of the good can be easily verified.

To make a long story short, the dynamic competition to be the most saleable good has, at various times, led humans to use many things as money (e.g. shells, precious metals, and promissory notes for debt). Based on these characteristics, we believe that bitcoin is likely to emerge as a dominant monetary good.
